Go ‘green’ and lower your electricity bill
- Planting the right vegetation can lower your energy consumption. A tree or shrub that shades your central air conditioner can improve its efficiency by up to 10 per cent.
Unplug appliances, or use a power strip and use the switch on the power strip to cut all power to the appliance, to avoid “vampire” loads. Many appliances continue to draw a small amount of power when they are switched off. These vampire loads occur in most appliances that use electricity, such as DVD players, TVs, stereos, computers, and kitchen appliances. Unplug battery chargers when the batteries are fully charged or the chargers are not in use.
Reduce heat losses through furnace openings.Observation shows that a furnace operating at a temperature of 1000 °C having an open door results in a fuel loss of 10 litres/hour. For 4,000 hour furnace operation, this translates into a loss of approximately Rs. 4 lakh per year.
–Consider variable speed drive for variable load on positive displacement compressors.
-Establish a compressor efficiency-maintenance program. Start with an energy audit and follow-up, then make a compressor efficiency-maintenance program a part of your continuous energy management program.
Keep air conditioner outside unit clear.Air must be able to circulate freely around your air conditioners outside unit.Keep the area around it clear of weeds and debris.Never build or put anything near the unit that would interfere with the air circulation. If air can’t circulate freely around your outside unit, you’ll have higher bills and more service calls.
